Special Protocols for Mechanical Thrombectomy during COVID

The global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) represents an unprecedented challenge to our health care system. Patients with severe infection are at high risk for acute ischemic stroke. Mechanical thrombectomy significantly reduces mortality and morbidity in ELVO stroke patients. Given the large number of patients who may be at risk of COVID-19 exposure, it is important to take additional safety precautions during these circumstances.
